I had a very fearful, skinny little border collie over for the day yesterday. She's currently in foster care associated with a dog rescue group that's in the process of starting up here.

The foster mom and founder of the rescue group let me take her to see how well she would do with someone else and in a different environment.

She's a year old and I think was a cattle dog that didn't make the grade. She apparently spent much of her first year in a barn, so city noises, sights and sounds ...

With Chewy down for a few weeks, I'm getting a lot more time to spend working and playing with Jill.

In particular, altho she's pretty good and coming back to check in with me when we're out at the park, she often takes off for the far end as soon as we get there (the park is HUGE) so I can easily lose track of her. If someone is playing fetch with their dog, she will get into herding mode and forget to come back.

Lately, I've been stepping up my use of trees and other obstacles every ...

Hurley is smart as can be... Already knows sit and where the food is at my house hahaha and is gaining energy like there's no tomorrow (he was much like Diego with his lethargy in the first couple days).

Keymo has 3 best new buddies: our nieces from Thunder Bay!

2 twin 10 year olds and one 11 year old.

They think Keymo is "the bomb" and he watches every move they make.

His tail muscles be SO sore - his tail hasn't stopped wiggling since they arrive Friday evening. LOL

He is NEVER lacking for attention from them, with three of them around, there's ALWAYS someone touching him.

Last eve we took him for an off leash run in the woods (while their parents soaked in our hot tub)and we ...

1. Be as extravagant as possible when swinging your head around to get past obstacles such as doorjambs, chairs, laundry baskets etc. Points awarded for stuff sent flying onto the floor, and for paint removal.

2. Smash your cone into the back of your peoples' legs. Minimum of twice per day, per person. The more momentum you can gather, the better. If you can make your person swear under their breath, that's bonus points.

3. Rearrange your dog bed position using the "scoop" method. ...

Chewy has been off vigorous exercise and most especially anything that causes her to leap into the air for a bit. Over the past several weeks she has been favoring her front leg when she first gets up.

Took her along this morning for a an outing (no ball) and she did fine.

Keymo's doggy daycare was closed for a week and BOY did he miss it!

The week prior to her holidays, she mentioned that "Keymo will play with the other dogs for a bit, but then seems like he'd rather hang around me or the kids" and she seemed a little worried about that fact.

I told her that Sammies are really people dogs -they would choose to be near you and bored, over alone and playfull.

Yesterday we picked him up and she said, yes, he played with the other dogs for a bit, then ...

I've been doing a ton of yard work the past while trying to revamp the back area. Cutting down trees, hauling in rocks for flowerbed borders, hauling in mulch, that sort of thing.

The dogs are both happy to be spending so much time outdoors with me.

Chewy is usually content to lay down with a large stick and peel off the bark while keeping an eye on how my project is developing.

I'm forever leaving something somewhere else and and finally remembered that instead of having to go back ...

But now. . . OMG the first time she sneezed, it was right at bedtime, she was down the dark hallway and Keymo was making his way to our bedroom. She sneezed SO loud, she scared Keymo! LOL he sprinted to the bedroom, then peeped out into the hall to see what scared him!

We were at the park this morning and she joined two Goldens in the creek in pursuit of a duck. The three swam some distance down the creek before the duck flew back the opposite direction. The three dogs turned around and again took up pursuit.

After several minutes of getting close, only to have the duck fly a few yards ahead, Chewy broke away from the ...

Saturday at 11:30 pm, we wore woken up by Frisby our cat causing a ruckous in the living room. Even Keymo was woken up.

Hubby got up to see what was wrong and said - The house really smells like the bonfire, from down the beach.

- Better that than skunk, like the other night - I replied

But when I got up just to see how bad, I thought it smelled more like pot than firewood. We were concerned that some teens had broken in next door so hubby opened the door to go take a look and a sniff.

The people at the window always think it's funny. Not us.

It's actually OUR fault! The 2nd time we went, we gave him a dog cookie to shut him up (he snacked while we placed our order).

Banjo never has any inclination to come and see Keymo, he's WAY more interested in carrying a stick or a toy that his owner throws for him.

Diego has officially become a dog! lol First major anything for him happened last night and I'm not even sure how he did it. I'm assuming he cut his pad on a rock or something, I tried to be all CSI and follow the blood marks back to where he would have cut them, but came up short. He cut it on the big pad, pretty cleanly so I don't think it'll be hard to heal and from what I read on the net last night, should heal quickly.

Its pretty funny to watch him hobble around though. I've cleaned ...

Keymo is turning into a water-dog! He LOVES going wading in the water and out onto the sandbar. So when hubby took him out there yesterday, he wandered around like a true Ottawa River native.

I didn't go with them: opted to stay in the a/c'd house.

A while later I heard a "knock knock" on the living room window and went to see. There stood a proud Keymo in the middle of the lawn with a child's swimming mask dangling from his teeth, tail wiggling feverishly.

Hubby said he found ...

Took Keymo out into the river yesterday after work. The Ottawa River is SO low this year, the sandbar in front of place is HUGE. The wildlife LOVE it!

There are thousands of tad poles, baby catfish, etc and of course they bring on the birds to eat them. The ducks gather there, the seagulls hang out on the beach and the Great Blue Herons and Osprey land and hunt in the water.

Yesterday there were about 40 ducks there wading in the shallow water. they slowly paddled out into deeper water as ...

We had only one other dog show up for the last class.

As we'd had a particularly busy weekend (my parents were out for a visit, so Rexy had to keep tabs on everyone and missed a lot of naps lol), Rexy was apparently still tired and her brain totally melted about halfway through the class, poor pup. We were doing a 5 jump combo with the tunnel, and later a 4 jump, tire jump, tunnel combo and she completely stopped thinking... She couldn't manage jumping more than one jump at all.
We take Keymo to doggie daycare every Monday & Thursday. And every time we pick him up, he's dirty from the tummy down. Last Friday he had clumps of mud so deep into his fur it was like someone pulled his top-coat up then splashed his undercoat with mud, then lay his top-coat back down.

He was DIRTY - even had a huge scuff accross his snout.

I thought CRAP isn't that creek dried up yet?

This morning when Colton got up to eat at 5 am, I found explosive poo in the diningroom, and I knew exactly who the culprit was; our little miss Mia. She didnt go last night before bed like Otis did; (he slept downstairs all night) instead she chose to take off after something. Im glad I found it instead of the fiance because he would of walked through it and it would not of been a good start to his day. Now I wasnt the happiest ...

Had no idea I'd be able to do this at this time last year! She is now able to flop in the grass within 6 feet of other dogs and just relax.

For this class we had a tab leash for her, just a very short (8 inch) length of rope with a clip on it to guide her to obstacles. So much better than the 6 footer!

This week we did small combos ...

Otis only really pulled once when he saw 2 dogs on the other side of the road, but when we walked infront of a house that had their dog out front, I told him to leave it and he kept going.

Its great that both of our parents live on the otherside of the neighbourhood. ...

I thought - one or two plastic pieces of the roof, but no, the WHOLE THING was off and lying about 10 feet away!

The frame is 2x4's - 14' long x 7' wide. 2 crossbeams each way, covered in that clear "corrugated" plastic sheeting. Must weigh like 75 lbs easy! AND it was screwed in to ...
